Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question?

Want to know a bit more about the coaching services?

To help you get your answers quickly, I’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular questions I’ve received from clients, accompanied by thorough answers.

  • What is coaching?
Firstly, to be clear - coaching is not therapy or counselling. Coaching supports clients in exploring new ways to view situations, individuals, possibilities, and in developing new approaches, plans, strategies and actions to move forward. Fundamental to a successful coaching experience is learning. There may be times when the learning involves new discoveries about the way an individual’s own actions play a part in situations the individual wishes to change. This type of self-discovery can at times be uncomfortable and challenging, however, the Coach will work alongside you as you develop your inner peace, mind and body balance and bring into your awareness your true self.
  • How is coaching different from therapy, counselling or mentoring?
While coaching can be therapeutic, it is not therapy or counselling which tends to focus on the past and look at issues historically nor is it mentoring which generally involves coming up with expert opinions and answers. However, coaching does use techniques derived from clinical psychology. Coaching though is more action and solution-oriented and focuses primarily on both the present and future. For example, a typical client may function well in many areas of life but need assistance in getting to the next level with a particular goal or challenge. Coaches work with clients to define and set goals, create action plans, monitor progress and make adjustments as necessary to help ensure goals are achieved.
  •  What is the responsibility of the Coach?
The coaching relationship is designed by both the Client and Coach and may be refined in the giving and receiving of feedback. Although the Coach is committed to the process, it still remains the Client’s personal responsibility to take action (or not take action) as they desire. The Coach will: Ask questions, encourage, challenge, make requests and listen to clarify and encourage you to set the goals that you really want Ask the client to do more than they have probably done on their own Help the client focus better in order to produce results more quickly Provide the client with the tools, support and structure to accomplish more Maintain the ethics and standards of behaviour established by the International Coach Federation (IFC), an internationally recognized standard for coaching
  • Why coaching online?
In order to make coaching as convenient for you, our coaching services is conducted online.
  • How long should I commit to working with a coach?
The number of sessions you may need is dependent on where you are and what you want to achieve. Usually it’s on a month-by-month basis for as long as it works for you. Although on average most people find coaching more beneficial than initially anticipated and therefore stay longer in a coaching relationship.
  • How can coaching help me?
Many clients like the sound of coaching because it is presented as positive, goal oriented and future focused. Coaching can help you clarify goals and identify manageable steps to achieving them. It can help you understand ways you may be limiting yourself and show you strategies you can use to overcome limiting beliefs to your success.
  • I work 9-5, how can I fit coaching in with my schedule?
Generally, the time commitment is about 90 minutes for the coaching including actions each week. Meeting once a week offers time for reflection and application of learning between sessions, while maintaining the momentum of your work with your coach. If this seems too overwhelming a different meeting frequency may be arranged. You coach will work with you to identify how action items identified during coaching sessions can be adopted into your routine. You have the final say on how this is to be done.
  • How can coaching help me if I don’t know what my goal is?
Your coach will work with you to explore and identify your aspirations, and together you will establish an achievable roadmap.
  • What about confidentiality?
What happens in your coaching session, stays in the session. This coaching relationship, as well as all information (physical & verbal) that the client shares in the coaching sessions is strictly confidential and is bound by the principles of confidentiality set forth in the International Coaching Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics.
  • What if I want to end my coaching agreement?
You may choose to terminate work at any time, although it is helpful for your coach to have 2 week’s notice in order to prepare a final session that focuses on review and closure. Ultimately, that decision is up to you.
