Feeling worn out as the year wraps up? Are you finding it hard to stay motivated or passionate about your work? Struggling to complete tasks or stay focused on your projects?

End-of-year fatigue is real, it isn't just physical; it also affects your professional mindset. It’s an exhaustion that creeps in as we wrap up projects, meet end-of-year goals, prepare for the holiday season, social commitments, and reflecting on the highs and lows over the past twelve months - it's no wonder we feel wiped out!
The first step in tackling this type of exhaustion is to acknowledge it and understand that you're not alone!
Recently, I've felt a sense of stagnation and emptiness. I wasn’t burnout, but I wasn't thriving either; so, I’ve decided to take some time away from the whirlwind of work to reset and shake off that fatigue to gear up for a rejuvenating holiday season.
Here are some practices I've found worked for me and I hope would benefit you too.
Focus on personal self-care: ensure you are getting enough rest with quality sleep, incorporate a balance diet and include light exercise into your routine to uplift your mood and energy. Stay connected with friends and family, either in person or virtually. Social connections can improve overall well-being.
Who are the people in your life that provide you with the most support, and how can you stay connected with them?
Professional self-care practices: establishing clear work-life boundaries is crucial to prevent stagnation, take regular breaks and avoid overextending yourself. Additionally, networking with colleagues and industry peers can provide valuable support and fresh perspectives.
What professional self-care routines help you feel rejuvenated?
Practice mindfulness and relaxation: include brief mindfulness exercises or meditation into your routine. Allocate time for activities that promote calmness, such as reading, gardening, mindful colouring or crafting.
What mindfulness or relaxation practices have you found effective in the past?
Embrace the spirit of the season: participate in holiday traditions that bring you joy, activities such as decorating or baking can help improve your mood. Engage in acts of kindness or volunteer work, assisting others can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
What holiday traditions or activities bring you the most joy?
As the year draws to a close and the holiday season approaches, it’s natural to feel a mix of emotions about your career. By acknowledging these feelings and taking proactive steps to address end-of-year fatigue, you can enter the new year with a refreshed outlook. Remember, it’s important to balance your professional responsibilities with self-care to ensure sustained fulfillment in your career.
As your career coach, I'm here to help you navigate this transitional period. Together, we can transform these challenges into opportunities for growth and rejuvenation.
Don’t let end-of-year fatigue hold you back— let’s connect and make the upcoming year your most successful yet!
